Throwback Thursday: Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! For today's Throwback Thursday, we're going to take a look back at celebrations at Grandma and Grandpa Steinke's house.

Every year, for all the major holidays, we'd pack the Steinkes, Picas and Sawatzkis into their house, line up a few tables and eat some grub.

We wouldn't just be there on Thanksgiving. We'd be there on Easter ...

... and we'd be there on Christmas, too.

At some point, they'd usually try to line up all the grandkids for a picture. It took a few years for everyone to cooperate.

Mostly, what I remember, though, is what we did after the meals. Going downstairs to play pool was always a fan favorite, as was rummy around the table upstairs.

In later  years, after the grandparents had passed, the gatherings moved to mom and dad's, which meant we had to play a bigger role in preparing the meal, from cutting the bird to peeling the potatoes. But I'll never forget all those gatherings at Grandma and Grandpa Steinke's.
