Becoming a dad

As part of my reporter duties I decided to write a column about becoming a first-time dad. If my editor liked it, there may be more to come. But until then, enjoy.

  1. Did you ever try looking at Expectant Father books on Amazon? Mohamed bought a few when I was expecting. He found somewhere around 25- between pregnancy to baby's first year- a lot were very well written. There are even some with sports themes, so maybe you could read those. :)

P.S. As many dolls as I've bought Leah, she STILL would prefer DUMP TRUCKS!!! Don't go by those antiquated gender roles. He just may like a little doll to play with. Didn't you have one? "My Little Buddy" I think it was? Just try not to put TOO much pressure on him with the sports thing- not all little boys are natural athletes, or even have an interest (not to mention girls can play sports too! :P )

  2. I also had a problem finding good "dad" books for dads trying to prep themselves. We also got the Caveman's book but it was so dumbed down I also ended up tossing it. So, if you end up writing one, you can certainly fill a vaccuum!

As far as sports... well, you've got a little bit to wait, but one thing I've learned: kids like imitating their parents, for better or worse!

  3. I was told after writing my column that a columnist at one of our sister papers, Ben Bromley, wrote a short book called "Daddy Dumbest." And I'm told it's pretty good. So I might look into that.

  4. It'd be nice to have a book that didn't assume that dads are complete idiots. It's true; many of us aren't geniuses, but we don't need to be talked down to.
