Artsy Fartsy Friday: An Abacus

Gracie's Take: I know that we have beads on it. You see that? And these go before and after. They're sticks. Four Popsicle sticks. And it was kind of hard to write my name (on the back) because the glue was still wet. We used monkey glue of some sort. It's a rattle. No, not a rattle. Um, I don't know what it is. It's for counting.

Dad's Take: The name she was looking for was abacus. She made an abacus. It's like that calculator thing on your phone, only it can't count past 50. I guess if you want to count past 50 you have to find a friend who has an abacus. Then you'd have two abaci. And if you needed to count past 100, you'd need to find another friend with an abacus. This must be how ancient people made friends, and how woodworkers sold their abaci! "Need friends, buy an abacus! You can count on it!"
