Andy's 5th Annual Online Gift Guide
Welcome back for another edition of Andy's Online Gift Guide. I'm not gonna lie, there's a lot of "guy stuff" in this year's Gift
Guide, but only because I found a lot of cool stuff this year that I'd
like to own. Enjoy!
Andy's Antiques and Farm Decor: If it's old, rusty or farm-related, you'll probably find it here. If you can't find it, make a request and the shop owner may be able to find it for you. I hear he's a nice guy.
DD Coin Jewelry: This Ithaca, Mich., shop takes old coins and turns them into rings.
Peninsula Projects: Another Michigan shop, this one in Garden City, uses pallets and paint to make artwork for your home.
Sprouts and Roots: This husband-and-wife team from Grand Haven, Mich., makes beautiful handmade jewelry for everyone in the family, even Fido.
Obvious Shirts: The shirts are simple, yet elegant. A few of the fun ones include "Javy Baez: Your favorite player's favorite player," "I take great naps" and "I'm allergic to St. Louis."
Keytiques: Michigan license plate belt buckles. Need I say more?
Michigan Studio: A Michigan shop that curates Michigan goods.
TB Toons: Take that fun family photo and have it cartooned by this Northwest Indiana artist (and fellow HP staffer) or star in your own comic strip.
Tin Can Sally: Probably my favorite fellow Etsy shop owner. She takes old tin cans and turns them into switch plate and electrical outlet covers. They are very cool.
Baseball Seams Co.
If there's a baseball lover in your family, Baseball Seams Co. is the place to go. This company takes old, used baseballs and repurposes, reloves, them into new items like tie clips, wall art, keychains, cuff links, necklaces, even Christmas ornaments. But why they do it is even more inspiring: "We take old, worthless baseballs and give them new life because that’s what God does with us through Jesus. He takes our brokenness, our failures, our resentment, our addictions, our imperfections and decides to love us anyways. Unconditionally. Recklessly."Seats from Wrigley Field
Sticking with baseball, who wouldn't want a pair of seats from historic Wrigley Field? Seats from the 2015 season go for $799 (plus shipping) while seats from the 2016 World Series season are $899. Are they expensive? Sure. But how cool would it be to sit in a seat, perhaps around a firepit, from the stadium that hosted last year's World Series champions? Maybe if I had a set, I mean, maybe if your loved one had a set, they could get Anthony Rizzo to follow them on Twitter. I imagine it comes with the package.Wrigley art
Sticking with baseball some more (stay with me, there is non-baseball stuff ahead, I promise), if Wrigley seats are too expensive, try this piece of art depicting Wrigley Field. While instantly familiar from afar, its real beauty comes upon closer inspection. The entire picture is created exclusively from the names of every player (all 2,052 of them) who played for the Cubs between 1876 and 2016.Petoskey watch
This Detroit-built watch may look like your standard watch at first glance, but look a little closer. The dial face is made from actual Petoskey stone. That's right, this watch is so Michigan, it is made with the state's stone. It's a little pricey, but hey, at least they offer monthly payment plans. My Secret Stash
Sticking with Michigan, check out these vintage-inspired glasses. They come in a variety of patterns for all the Michiganders on your shopping list. If you don't feel like handing out glassware for Christmas, don't worry, My Secret Stash offers all kinds of wares exclusively from small, Michigan-based companies. There's shirts, there's artwork, there's jewelry, there's soap, there's beer caddies and more (even mittens with the Mitten State on them).Ugly Sweaters
What's Christmas without an ugly sweater or two? Ugly Christmas Sweaters has a great collection of sweaters -- 1,000, it claims, but I didn't click through to verify. It even has some 3-D sweaters and some sweaters that are NSFW. So if there's an ugly sweater you've been looking for, they probably have it.$6 Shirts
If you're cheap, or just don't have a lot to spend on someone, check out $6 Shirts. It's just as great as it's name suggests. They have hundreds of graphic T-shirts for just $6 (and others for $9-12 if you're a high roller). If you can't find one that appeals to your loved one, you probably weren't looking hard enough.Heated foot warmer
Perhaps you live with someone, or multiple someones, who regularly has ice-cold feet. Well check out this electric, heated foot warmer from Serta. Use it in bed, use it under the desk at the office or throw it on the end of the old La-Z-Boy to keep those little piggies nice and toasty for hours on end.Singing in the Rain
Maybe you know someone who's always singing a ditty everywhere he goes. Well, help him out with this cool Bluetooth speaker for his showerhead. Let him listen to his favorite beats while enjoying a showerhead that, apparently, has three times more spray than a standard showerhead. It can connect to a device up to 33 feet away, and will even allow you to answer calls. Though I'm not sure why you'd want to interrupt your tunes.Bonus links
If none of that is to your liking, try one of these shops from my favorite website.Andy's Antiques and Farm Decor: If it's old, rusty or farm-related, you'll probably find it here. If you can't find it, make a request and the shop owner may be able to find it for you. I hear he's a nice guy.
