Pure Michigan Blueberries
Over the past week, we've been fortunate enough to come into about 10 pounds of delicious Pure Michigan blueberries. That's good news because Augie and I love eating banana-blueberry smoothies all year round, and we were fresh out of last year's berries. So we froze about half of the new ones. We won't be running out this year.
The other half of the berries have been turned into tasty, early-summer desserts like this lemon-blueberry-walnut bread. It takes quite a bit of blueberries, so we only really make it this time of year.
But since we froze more this year than we did last year, maybe we can have it again over the winter.
I'm pretty sure Augie wouldn't mind.
Another good chunk of the berries went into two blueberry pies. One is being eaten here at the Steinke household while the other went back to the Leitz farm for "processing."
And while I've helped with some of the baking, mom has done a good chunk of the work. That's OK, though, because it means I get to spend more time with my little blueberry.
