Bathroom Crashers

Gretchen and I are on staycation this week, and we have a long list of things to do around the house. Today, we tackled some projects in the bathroom. As you can see, we had some painting to do. The ceiling was newly painted when we bought the house, but it didn't seem to be a mold and mildew resistant paint. So we gave it a fresh coat of paint. Don't let Gretchen fool you, I did most of the taping yesterday.

A big help to the project was this green painter's tape I bought at the Habitat Restore. It was only $5 per roll. The small rolls at Lowe's cost more than that.

Another Restore steal: These two, new paint rollers for just $2.25.

Also starring: This large drop cloth from Big Lots. We got it last year for only $10.

And The Herald-Palladium. Good for more than just reading.

With everything properly prepared, we were off. And it was only mid morning.

We got the first coat on by lunch. Some of it ended up on Gretchen.

After our mandatory, daily Lowe's run for this small edging roller, we got the second coat done during nap.

We got the paint cleaned up, which meant it was time to clean the floor. Not because it was paint covered, because it was dirty. I found this interesting grout cleaning solution online, and I thought we'd try it out. It's just warm water and OxiClean. The people who had the house before us stupidly grouted the bathroom tile white. Probably because it was cheapest. Needless to say, it got dirty quickly. The OxiClean mixture actually cleaned pretty well.

Once it was dry, I pulled out my new bottle of grout sealer and went to work -- something I don't think happened when the tile was installed. Now, hopefully, it will stay clean. Not pictured in today's blog post, a little bit of caulking around the top of the shower stall. But it happened. You'll just have to trust me.
