Dinner and a Show

More and more I'm finding that Augie is quite the little comedian. His vocabulary is growing quickly, which means the things he says are getting funnier -- whether he knows it or not. It's true what they say, kids say the darnedest things.

An example from tonight. We were at the dinner table and Gretchen was spooning food onto her plate and  Augie's plate. She always tells him, she's going to put it on his plate, but he doesn't have to eat it. (We are trying to get him to eat more, different foods.) I had already put some noodles and sauce on his plate, and he was happy about that. But when Gretchen came at him with a piece of broccoli, he was not pleased. "No, no trees, momma!" he screamed.

When the meal was over, or at least when Augie thought the meal was over, he turned to Gretchen and said, "All done?" Gretchen said, "All done." Augie turned to me and said, "All done?" I said, "OK, all done." Without missing a beat, he said, "Clean up." If he knew how to snap his fingers, I think he would have.

As a bonus to tonight's standup, I took a little video of what Augie does after dinner. Gretchen says it's his crazy hour. Generally he runs around the house, makes a mess and uses up whatever energy he has left for the day.

Some highlights from the video
- (Around 5 seconds) He says, "I wanna see, honey." "Honey" is his new favorite word. I'm not sure where he picked it up, but everyone is eligible to be called honey.
- (Around 16 seconds) He loses interest in wanting to see the images on the camera, and wants to play with his balloon. Sometimes he has the attention span of a goldfish.
- (Around 38 seconds) Roscoe gets up to play with Augie. Two seconds later, he realizes Augie is crazy and goes back to chewing on his bone.
- (Around 1:03) He stops his balloon play to pat the couch.
- (Around 1:08) He stops patting the couch to go get a closer look at Wheel of Fortune, a show he usually sits and watches.
- (Around 1:12) He stops watching the TV to run with his balloon some more.

Apparently he's pretty scatterbrained like this most nights. I just wish I was here more often to catch the crazy things he does at night during crazy hour.
