Happy Birthday, Augie!
I didn't post anything yesterday on Augie's birthday, but he had one. I have the picture here to prove it. We didn't do a whole lot yesterday for his birthday. We kept it quiet while waiting for Augie's party today. While we waited for the party, Augie gave me a little clap on his birth minute.
Augie had three cakes for his birthday party. This one. One the same size as this with Big Bird on it. And a small one for him to destroy (more on that later).
We started the party off with a little food: soup, meatballs, fruit, sandwiches, pop. Augie bit into a few crackers and pushed around a couple of pieces of peach.
I guess some people were more worried about the weather than the food.
Meanwhile, out in the hallway, Hope took off with one of the helium balloons.
Jonah and Ethan decided it was more fun to run with the balloons.
After eating, "Augie" opened his presents, and by Augie I mean mom. I won't put up everything he got, but this Toy Story T-rex was a real hit. It "roared" and opened its mouth when you squeezed his stomach. If you squeeze him multiple times, though, he sounds more like a sea gull, which makes him even more fun.
Ethan really liked him, too. He used him to eat Jonah's green dinosaur.
Another great gift, for me more so than Augie, was this remote. Now he won't chew on my remote anymore (fingers crossed).
This photo is representative of mom putting every bow she found on Augie's head. Amazingly Augie didn't seem to care all that much. Thank goodness for early-day naps.
Not everyone who was invited came to the party (I assume because of the snow and not because they don't like Augie), but we still had about 35 people there, which wasn't too bad. It also meant fewer presents that we have to try and haul back to Wisconsin.
But he still had a pretty good haul.
Check out my awesome shirt, dad. Thanks grandma Steinke.
The presents pretty much fit into five bags. Now we'll see if those five bags fit into dad's car.
Next up was cake. While Augie waited for the cake to come to him, he chilled with cousin Karah...
...and great-grandma and grandpa Blighton...
...and Aunt Lauren. Check out my balloon, Aunt Lauren.
Finally the cake. Mean old mom not only opened all his presents, but blew out his candle too.
Yum, cake. He didn't make as big of a mess as mom expected, but he did his fair share of damage to Elmo's face.
Thanks to everyone who braved the snow and bought Augie presents for his birthday. I'm not sure we'll be doing another big party like this in the future, but since it was his first birthday we decided it was appropriate. We are headed back to Wisconsin tomorrow. We probably won't be back to Michigan until this summer, but if you miss Augie feel free to visit, we'll put you up.
