The Hello Augie Tour, Days 1 & 2
Saturday began the first official Hello Augie Tour (©2010). I had a week of furlough days to use up, so we decided to come to Michigan so everyone could see Augie, most of them for the first time. We left Saturday morning around 9:30 a.m. (CT) and rolled into Michigan around 4:30 p.m. (ET). The drive doesn’t usually take that long, but we made a stop in Madison to shop and another stop at a tollway oasis to eat, so we didn’t make as bad of time as it sounds.
Augie didn’t mind the long drive, he slept the whole way. An act which I gave a big thumbs up.
When we got to grandma and grandpa Westerhoven’s house only grandma and grandpa were home, but apparently one of the great-grandparents had called three times wondering if we were there yet so they could see Augie.
A short while later Aunt Marcie (above) and Aunt Lauren came over to see their first nephew.
Like usual, Augie took it all in stride by doing what he loves to do during the day: sleep. That was good and all, except that meant he didn’t want to sleep at night. He was wide awake from 3 to 7 a.m. Wide awake. He had to rest up because Sunday he had to go and see dad’s side of the family.
Sunday afternoon grandma Becker and cousin Mikey met Augie for the first time. Augie slept.
Next he got to meet grandpa Becker. Augie slept.
Cousin Mikey was tired of all the sleeping and decided to reek some havoc. (Note: Check out that Albert Einstein hairdo. You heard it here first, the “Einstein” is the next big thing.)
Mikey settled down long enough to poke at Augie while grandma Steinke held him. Grandma likes to hold Augie. Augie slept.
Next was Aunt Chrissy and cousin Abby. Augie's response? Sleeping.
While Augie was passed around Gretchen took some time to sneak in some chocolate. She thought no one was looking, but the camera doesn’t lie.
Augie moved to Aunt Janet next, where he was greeted again by cousin Abby. Augie was unimpressed, and slept.
Meanwhile Mikey showed off his drinking skills with his Tonka sippy cup.
Before everyone left mom and dad got a shot at holding Augie, mostly so everyone else could ge some pictures of them with Augie. Augie slept.
Grandma and grandpa Steinke got a shot with Augie, too. But Mikey had to be in the picture. Augie slept.
After everyone left, Uncle Tim came home from work to see Augie for the first time. And for once Augie wasn’t sleeping. But he didn’t stay awake for long.
The rest of the week is pretty booked. Augie has to see great grandmas and grandpas Blighton and Westerhoven tomorrow, surrogate aunts and uncles Ashley and RJ Tuesday and Beth and Andy Wednesday, and Aunt Leslie Thursday. By the time the tour is over, Augie will be so tired he should sleep all the way back to Wisconsin. Not that I expected anything otherwise.

And Augie looks so pleased at being awake and in Uncle Tim's arms, doesn't he? But then again, I suppose I wouldn't be pleased to wake up and find myself in Tim's arms, either.
ReplyDeleteHey - don't knock it - Tim is not only A: holding the baby, but also 2: allowing Andy to take his picture. Both pretty big accomplishments right there.
ReplyDeleteJen does have a point.
