Field Trip: Dutch Village
Gretchen and Augie had a school field trip today to Dutch Village in Holland. So, since Gracie and I are on vacation this week, we tagged along.
After a short informational video about Holland (not the one in Michigan), we went outside for a guided tour of some of the attractions, like the story of Pieter sticking his finger in the dam.
Our guide showed us the backside of this giant player organ that the village had shipped in from Holland. That paper she's holding in her hand is inserted into the organ, and that's the tune it plays.
It's a pretty intricate machine, and at 2,000 pounds one of the largest organs of its kind not actually in Holland.
Other parts of our guided tour included dancers ...
... and a little history on the famous wooden shoes.
We took a quick lunch break.
Some of us even ate and drank our own lunches.
And then, we got to explore on our own. Gracie showed mom how a real teacher keeps her class quiet: By having no students.
We inspected the petting zoo, which the guide conveniently avoided during our tour.
Probably because she didn't want all the kids carrying bunnies around for the rest of the tour.
Gracie had a unique way of feeding the goats: One kernel at a time.
Augie wanted to check out some of the rides.
Mom went with him.
She had it easy. I had to keep up with watersports ...
... and American Ninja Warrior.
Before we hit the gift shop, we tried out this little cart thing.
Gracie needed a little push, but anything brother could do, she could do, too.
Happy field trip!
