Steinke Family Mini Vacation 2016

The Steinke family is on vacation this week. We are taking it easy, but planned a short trip to Indianapolis to appease the minions. They were VERY excited to leave Monday, annoyingly so, you might say. So we sent them to the basement to keep busy until we were ready to leave.

While they were playing, Gretchen was busy setting up the DVD player. I think MacGyver helped her.

When the movie was over, Augie made me a picture with his travel Spirograph. I think it is perfect.

Once we got checked in, we decided to just chill in the hotel room for the night, which was fine because we had pizza.

Gracie was excited all night. I think she thought she was going to share the big bed with brother. She was wrong.

On Tuesday, we made it over to the zoo. We got tickets to the zoo and the Children's Museum as part of our hotel package. We had time to see a few things while we were at the zoo, like this polar bear.

There was a dolphin show at 10:30, but first we checked out the dome underneath the dolphins' play area. It was pretty cool.

The presenters talked a little bit during the show ...

... but the dolphins did most of the heavy lifting.

They were pretty impressive.

OK, they were show offs.

So we went to see the dessert animals. The meerkats were show offs, too. It's like they knew people were taking their picture.

So we went to see the snakes. Snakes are notoriously grumpy. We wouldn't be getting any showmanship out of them.

Next, we went to see the orangutans, and we saw a lot of them, because outside the heavens opened.

Mom went to the gift shop, getting soaked in the process, to get us some umbrellas and ponchos. Augie was not to happy about it. We went back outside, but the rain was just coming down too hard, so we made the sad trip back to the hotel. We'll have to try and see the rest of the zoo another time.

It rained a lot on Tuesday, so we got some grub and found a mall to hit to kill off the rest of the day. Or most of it anyway, there was a pool that needed exploring.

This morning, we went to the Children's Museum. There were a couple of customers who didn't feel like paying for their visit.

Bumblebee was there to turn them away, though.

There was a lot to see inside, like this mastodon skull ...

 ... and silly mirrors ...

... and even Pong.

I wasn't sure what to think of these weird Potato Heads, but Gracie sure seemed to like them.

And who doesn't like a race car? We had kids waiting for us to get out of the way.

There was a special zone just for kids 5 and younger. They had this lily pad type contraption that Gracie just loved. She probably would have went up and down it 100 times if I had let her.

Some of the other things to do included shopping at the Chinese market ...

... dressing like a princess ...

... racing Hot Wheels cars ...

... seeing dinosaurs ...

... tracing dinosaurs ...

... and, of course, digging for dinosaur bones. And that concludes the Steinke family mini vacation.
