Thanksgiving was as late as it could possibly be this year, which meant Augie was really, really ready to put up the Christmas tree. So on Saturday, we dragged it upstairs and put it together.
But we ran into the same problem we had last year, lots of non-working lights. This will undoubtedly be this tree's last year. It's shedding a lot and we're tired of fixing the lights.
So Gretchen went out and bought one of these doo-hickeys. And wouldn't you know it, it actually worked as advertised. You take out a bulb, plug the empty socket into the gun, pull the trigger, and the lights that still work on the string are magically lit up. I was shocked. We should have bought it last year.
Before I went to work Sunday, we decorated the now-working tree. Augie was super excited.
Mom was, too.
She got less excited the more pictures I took. She thought I was there to help her. She's so funny.
We let Augie do a lot more decorating this year, including this Bulldog character from "Planes" that he got from Grandma Steinke.
Some of them just barely made it onto the branch.
Most of the ornaments ended up in the back corner, probably because I could see him through the tree. He thought that was funny.
